Android - Is it just a means to an end?
I read this article on Gizmodo the other day. It got me thinking as to whether the argument holds up.
Now it is obvious that Android gives Google a massive platform for using its AdSense & AdWords services, as well as pointing people toward making Google.com searches, which all make them money.
And of course, if in the process of making money for themselves it takes market share away from...

This makes some good points, though I think it is still important to realise where your creativity lies (as in, what field).

Lyric of the week
This week my favourite track has been Michael Jackson’s Will You Be There. The lyrical theme of the song is an interesting one, especially when put in context by the opening section of the song, a snippet from Beethoven’s ninth, and a part of the famous Ode to Joy. Here, the German lyrics heard translate to
Do you bow down, millions? Do you sense the Creator, world? Seek Him beyond the starry...

Lyric of the Week
I’ll make some updates in between these posts at some point, honest. But for now; this week the track I’ve been looking at is Hello Hurricane by Switchfoot.
The theme of the song is about battling with and standing strong in the face of opposition, not letting pressures or circumstances affect the way we act or believe. The second verse in particular, has a phrase that I really...

Lyric of the week
This week I’ve been listening to the album Our Graceful Words by Sent By Ravens quite a lot, it’s a quality album. Throughout the album the lyrics made me think, which I always like, but this one track, An Honest Heart, stood out in particular because the verses are a great summary of what I’ve been thinking about over the last couple of weeks.
Verse 1:
Come and see, The...

Lyric of the week
I don’t know if this will become a regular post, but I’ll start it off intending for that to be the case. The idea is basically just a chance to post some lyrics that I’ve found particularly good, whether they are funny, clever, applicable to my current feelings or just well written.
This week, I’ve heard a lot from God at Nexus, and really been challenged on how I view...

Queue fail and general forgetfulness.
So I realise I haven’t made any posts here for ages, and that is mostly my fault for forgetting. There has been a few issues with the queue feature on tumblr not working as it should, so there are a couple of backlogged posts that will hopefully follow swiftly on from this.

Time to change things up a bit
As I’ve got a few of days to relax and catch up with things, and I was bored of the old theme I had here, I’m going to make a few changes. Hopefully one day i’ll get round to trying to code my own theme or making a proper website, but I just don’t have enough motivation for that yet.
So stay tuned I guess. Hopefully I won’t break anything.

“I have seen with the eyes of my heart the great hope to which he has called us, but out of some shyness or diffidence I rarely speak of it.”

Lord let that no longer be the case in my life, give me a boldness to speak of you, and the words to say.
Christmas concerts are here!
Tonight is the first show of the 2010 Nexus Trust Christmas Concerts, if it goes as well as the dress rehearsals, it’ll be great!
If you’re in the area and free tonight, why not pop along to 71 Albany Road, Coventry, and see for yourself!
Bring some change too so you can enjoy the freshly made popcorn. :)

My take: How to scandal proof your church →
Ok, so this blog post has an awful heading, and the first few paragraphs are pretty much unnecessary. But, the points made on how modern churches can and should nurture a culture in which failure is ok, and people are held accountable, are worth looking at. They may appear pretty obvious, but unfortunately I suspect few churches have such a culture.

Why I Read
I’ve been thinking a bit today about why I like reading, and wondering how that affects the books I choose to read.
Broadly speaking, I read four types of books. I split roughly equal time between fiction (usually fantasy or sci-fi), and what I’d describe as Christianity/Christian Living. Occasionally I’ll also pick up a popular science or a biographical text, but far less...

Making an effort to relax
Taking time to rest, relax, recuperate. In theory this should be easy - just switch off that part of me that is always thinking about the next job to do and simply be for a few days.
The problem is, in practice, I’m finding this quite a challenge. I’ve spent the last two days splitting my time between extra sleep, finishing off a couple of books I’ve been reading, and playing...
